Thank you for sharing this. I did start a company last year but had to move on earlier due to various reasons. But reading this post of yours (although got to it after 5 years), makes it quite clear how to think ahead. There are still familial constraints, but upside of starting a company is much higher than not starting. Thanks Erik. Appreciate this.

Super interesting perspective, especially as someone who is deep in the corporate world and hoping to expand my horizons! What do you think of Harvard's publication that showed the average age of a successful funder is 45. Do you think that is because they founded other businesses prior, had more at bats and ultimately succeeded years down the line OR that they built up the life skills / knowledge at established firms, saw how things were done (good and bad) and went out on their own in mid 40s? I assume you would say the former, but reading your piece now gave me a new perspective on how to analyze that dataset (aka did they just become a founder at 45 or were they founders for the last 2 decades and just now hit "success").
